Hike in electricity tariff, fuel price: No going back on strike — NLC

THE Nigeria Labour Congress has vowed to proceed with its planned strike and protest with effect from September 28 following the failure of the Federal Government to reverse the hike in electricity tariff and fuel price.

Rising from its National Executive Council meeting in Abuja this evening,  the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, said the proposed action by the organised labour would proceed from next week.

He stated that the decision was unanimously taken by the chairmen of the 36 states and FCT chapters of the NLC.

Recall that government had about two weeks ago increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N 138.62 to N147.67,  prompting  marketers  to adjust their pump prices to between N158 and N162 from N148 to N150 in August. The ex-depot price is the price at which government sells petrol to marketers.

Besides the fuel hike being the third within three months, it came at  a time electricity distribution companies increased their tariffs.
