NIGERIA’s leading disaster relief agency, Sesor, has unveiled plans for its 10th anniversary.
Founded in 2010, Sesor has provided relief materials to over 10,000 displaced persons in 25 outreaches in eight states across the Middle Belt, the Northeast and the Southwest of Nigeria, provided educational support to 188 displaced children and provided access to basic healthcare services for over 450 displaced persons (women and children) through various medical outreaches.
As part of events to mark its anniversary, the relief agency announced a series of exciting activities over the next 10 months including thanksgiving services in Lagos and Benue.
The company’s head of communications, Jasmine Asekome, made the revelation in a statement on Monday.
He noted that celebrations have kicked off online with the unveiling of a special 10th anniversary logo and online commemorative pieces including Donor-of-the-Week Appreciation Series, a Time-Travel-in-Pictures Series and a weekly IDP Woman Feature.
Speaking at their Lagos office, Sesor’s co-founder, Ier Jonathan-Ichaver, said: “We are very excited that we have come this far! Who’d have thought that the little initiative we started after our grandmother got displaced in a small village in Benue would grow to impact over 10,000 people in 8 states and support the livelihoods of over 200 displaced women?
“We are extremely thankful that God has brought us this far and kept us – especially in this year with COVID where we were able to provide COVID-related cash and food assistance to 289 families. This would not have been possible without the support of our 30 partners and numerous supporters who have been with us through thick and thin. We look forward to even more impact and to seeing more displaced families resettled, thriving and healing!”
Asekome added that Sesor will also be launching its regular givers’ donor programme called The Sesor Club and holding a displaced persons’ roundtable among other exciting and educative events.
