Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to return to action in January after spending two months on the sidelines due to injury.
The Napoli centre forward dislocated his shoulder in November during Nigeria’s 4-4 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers draw with Sierra Leone in Benin City and has been undergoing rehabilitation since then.
Napoli director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli is hopeful that the club’s record signing, who cost them €80 million from Lille in August, will be back in action soon.
“He is not yet in perfect shape, we hope he will return in January,” Giuntoli was quoted by Football Italia.
“We don’t know if it’s the start, middle or end, we’ll have to see how he reacts when he returns to training.”
“Napoli have struggled for goals and have been in patchy form in Osimhen’s absence but a striker who could stand in for him, Arek Milik, has been frozen out due to a contract dispute.
“The transfer window is an issue for everyone,” Giuntoli added.
“We have a striker that many clubs would like to have, so we will wait and see what happens.
“Milik wants to go and play so he can be ready for the Euros. That is what he wants. I don’t think we will sign anyone, as the squad is complete, so we’ll only sell a couple. Milik and Llorente? It could be.”
Napoli, who were tipped to fight for the Serie A title at the beginning of the season, lost 2-0 to Lazio on Sunday night and slipped to fifth in the table with 23 points, eight points off leaders AC Milan.
