EDO: Head of Service, Okungbowa, freed after three days in captivity

THE Head of Service (HoS) in Edo State, Anthony Okungbowa, has been released by kidnappers three days after he was abducted.

Okungbowa was abducted on Saturday evening by gunmen, who ambushed him on his way back to Benin City after attending an event in a town in the state.

It was gathered that the HoS was released after the payment of an undisclosed ransom.

Narrating how Okungbowa’s release was secured, a family member said the ransom was paid through collaboration between the family and the state government.

Reacting to the release of Okungbowa, the family member said, “We just want to thank God that our brother has been set free and in good health condition.”

While Okogbowa returned unscathed, his police orderly and driver lost their lives during the encounter with kidnappers.

They were said to have been cut down in a hail of bullets. The driver died instantly while the police orderly made it to the hospital but eventually died on Monday evening following complications from gunshots injury he sustained.

“We are sorry to note that the police orderly did not survive the gunshot injury,” the family member was quoted to have said.
