Everton fans bash Iwobi after defeat to Man United

Everton fans were severely disappointed with their players for the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United on Wednesday night, singling out Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi for serious criticism.

Edinson Cavani and substitute Anthony Martial scored twice in the 88th minute and five minutes into added time at Goodison Park to end Everton’s interest in the cup.

Everton put up little resistance against a dominant United side, with Iwobi and his teammates posting an error-prone outing.

Although Iwobi has been decent in recent matches, he was one of a number of Everton players who did not perform up to expectations on Wednesday night, and the fans did not spare him on social media.

“I really want Iwobi to succeed but his end product and decision making is so shocking. About threw my TV out the window when he ignored Coleman standing wide open in the box when he tried to set Gylfi up for the diving header,” a fan identified as Evertonkh10 tweeted.

“100% he’s not good enough,” Gavin John replied, agreeing with him.

“Iwobi is so bad. Shame Gordon has been snubbed for long when we have to watch Iwobi give the ball away time and time again,” RichPhillips82 added under the tweet by the official Everton account announcing the result.

“Iwobi is inconsistent. One of the worst performances last night,” Niren added.

A few other fans criticised the entire team, but still picked out the Nigeria international.

“Bernard and Gomez woeful. Davies, Iwobi & Siggy just not good enough, although Siggy never stopped trying..Carlo only signed 4 players & 2 of his most creative Allen & Rodriguez never played. Give Carlo time & he’ll get it right. Got to get rid of Brand’s big useless signings,” Stephen Griffin wrote.

“Iwobi was shite actually, poor final ball,” J Beyser wrote.

“Yes he (Iwobi) is not good enough but we can’t sell him because we need a 2nd team and reality is we don’t have enough to go buy a new midfield and wingers. I would buy Zaha/Leon Bailey than play James centrally and also buy Demarai Grey as back up,maybe a good central mid as well (Winks),” Gerson wrote.

A number of fans wondered how Iwobi was allowed to play the full game by manager Carlo Ancelotti.

“Iwobi was offline from the word go, how he played full ninety only Everton understand,” Jshegu wrote.

Iwobi has made 15 appearances for Everton this season in multiple positions, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
