THE move by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to freeze some accounts belonging to prominent members of the recent agitation by the Nigerian youth against police brutality tagged #EndSARS has started taking its toll on one of them.
A pharmacist, Victor Israel, has taken to his twitter handle, @VictorIsrael_ to lament the effect of the CBN’s action on his life in this festive season.
Victor disclosed that following the freezing of his accounts he has been unable to discharge his responsibilities to his family, adding that this is the ” worst Christmas” for him and his family.
Disclosing the role he played during the protest, Victor said he provided medical assistance to injured #EndSARS protesters
In a series of tweets, the pharmacists shared pictures of his activities during the #EndSARS protests in Port Harcourt to buttress his claim.
One of the pictures showed him treating an injured protester.
In one of his tweets, he expressed willingness to collect as little as a cup of rice.
He tweeted, “Exactly two months and nine days after CBN froze all my bank accounts because I gave medical assistance to #EndSARS protesters in Port Harcourt. All my sweat, all my savings gone!
“This is so far the worst Christmas for me and my family. Omo! Abeg, who get rice to give me?”
“CBN froze all my bank accounts for two months now because I received donations for #EndSARS protest in Port Harcourt. They said I’m sponsoring terrorism, please do I look like a terrorist?
“I’m a Pharmacist whose offence was to give medical assistance. I need help,” he said in another tweet.
The #EndSARS protests lasted between October 7 and 20 in Lagos and several other states of the federation.
While the protests lasted, Nigerian youth trooped to the streets to demand good governance and an end to police brutality.
But on the night of October 20, some men of the Nigerian Army visited Lekki toll gate one of the protest grounds in Lagos and allegedly opened fire on the protesters
What actually transpired that night is still shrouded in controversy as there have been claims and counterclaims from the military and those present at the protest ground that night.
