GOVERNOR Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has condemned the attack on Garkida town in Gombi Local Government area by Boko Haram elements as an act of wickedness and man’s inhumanity to his fellow beings.
Governor Fintiri described the attack as outrageous and an affront on the people of Adamawa and humanity as a whole.
“This latest dastardly attack on Gombi town is yet another desperate action by the Boko Haram terrorists who have been under intense pressure from the Nigerian military,” Fintiri said.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor said; “Let me reassure Adamawa residents that this latest cowardly attack on Garkida, would not go without severe consequences,”
While sympathising with Garkida residents over the unfortunate Christmas eve attack, Governor Fintiri charged security agencies to do more in forestalling such deadly attacks in the state.
The statement further quoted the governor as saying; “We regret the attack on innocent civilians,” adding that the “attack is a cruel reminder of the incriminate aims of the terrorists and an example of why everyone must be involved to confront the menace without boundaries.
“I stand with Garkida community in this difficult time, and will continue to support the Military’s efforts at ensuring peace, security and justice for the people”.
The Boko Haram fighters had launched an attack on the sleepy town located on the fringes of the deadly Sambisa forest on Thursday evening, resulting in the death of two civilians, including a 5-year-old boy.
In the attack that lasted for some hours, properties worth millions of Naira were either looted or destroyed by the terrorists and other criminal elements.
Gombi is the Local Government headquarters of Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigeria.
According to confirmed reports; the area has been attacked severally in the past by the Boko Haram terrorists with the military maintaining heavy presence and ongoing operations around the North East region since May 2013.
Recalled that in July 2014, a German development worker was kidnapped in Gombi town by the terrorist gang.
