Enyimba of Aba head coach Fatai Osho has expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in their CAF Champions League clash with Al Merreikh.
The Nigerian side lost the first leg of the first round tie 3-0 in Omdurman, giving themselves a tough task in the return leg.
For Enyimba, who won the competition in 2003 and 2004, to progress, they must win by a four-goal margin in Aba, a near impossible result against the wily Sudanese.
Former Crown of Ogbomoso coach Osho admits that Al Merreikh profited from his team’s sloppy play.
“It is really a painful one,” he told his club’s official website. “Every mistake on our part they got it punished and that was very good on their side.
“In terms of play we did very well but we needed to be a bit tidy at the back.”
Of the four Nigerian clubs in this season’s continental competitions, only Enyimba and Rivers United remain after both Plateau United and Kano Pillars were eliminated in the previous round.
While Enyimba look to be on the verge of elimination from the CAF Champions League, Rivers United are in a good position to advance in the CAF Confederation Cup after their 2-0 away win to South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.
