FCT: #RevolutionNow convener, Sowore, arrested again in Abuja

CONVENER of the #RevolutionNow movement and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, was yesterday arrested in Abuja, and reports said he spent the new year crossover in police custody.

Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 polls, was arrested along with other activists, according to Sahara Reporters.

They were said to be carrying out a peaceful procession to mark the New Year when they were arrested by security forces in Abuja.

According to the report, eyewitnesses said policemen suspected to be with the Rapid Response Squad stormed Gudu junction in Abuja, injuring Sowore before taking him away with other activists at the location.

This arrest happened barely a year after the rights activist was released from detention on on stringent bail conditions. He had been arrested in August 2019 by the operatives of the Department for State Security.

He was charged with cyberstalking among others and eventually released on bail in December 2019 after being held incommunicado for four months.
