THE wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu earlier today, welcomed the first baby of 2021 at Mushin General Hospital.
Baby Amoo, male, weighing 3kg, was delivered at 12:01am by Mrs Amoo Tomilola.
The birth of a child, said Mrs Sanwo-Olu, does not happen by chance but required that women take steps to ensure that they live a healthy life while pregnant. And that is besides seeking professional care during labour and delivery.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu, who acknowledged the efforts of frontline workers in the fight against Covid-19, urged Lagos residents to assist the government by adhering strictly to all the safety protocols.
Earlier in his speech, Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, represented by his Permanent Secretary, Segun Ogboye restated government’s commitment to reducing maternal mortality by implementing various ideas such as advocacy campaigns, community dialogues, upgrading of existing infrastructure in the health facilities to provide basic and comprehensive obstetric care as well as other life-saving services.
Mrs Sanwo-Olu visited another three General Hospitals to welcome and present gifts items to the other three first babies of the year delivered in the state-owned health facilities.
