Napoli are reportedly planning to fine Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after he tested positive for tested COVID-19 upon his return to Italy from Nigeria on Thursday.
The club announced on Friday that the injured Nigerian had contracted the virus abroad, and fresh reports suggest that they are considering punishing him for flouting COVID-19 guidelines.
Osimhen turned 22 on Tuesday and he allegedly celebrated by partying with friends and family who were all without masks in contravention of coronavirus protocols.
Italian outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno reported on Saturday that Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso was not happy with Osimhen and would fine the Nigerian two weeks’ wages.
Apart from contracting coronavirus, Gattuso is reportedly also dissatisfied with Osimhen for risking an aggravation of his shoulder injury.
The former Lille striker dislocated his shoulder in November and was taken straight to the hospital during Nigeria’s 4-4 draw with Sierra Leone in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Benin City.
He was said to be very close to returning to full fitness before his trip to Nigeria for Christmas, and he will now face a period of self-isolation in compliance with public health guidelines.
