NPFL: Pillars, Rangers win as Nasarawa stun Heartland

There were victories for Kano Pillars, Enugu Rangers, Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars on Sunday as the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League season entered its second matchday.

The standout result is however Nasarawa United’s 2-1 over hosts Heartland in Owerri.

In Kano, Pillars defeated Katsina United 2-0 with first-half goals from David Ebuka in the seventh minute and veteran Rabiu Aliu in the 20th minute.

Enugu Rangers got the better of visitors Akwa United, winning 1-0 through Israel Abia’s 60th minute goal.

Nasarawa United got their winner through Adamu Hassan in the 74th minute. Chinedu Ohanachom had shot the visitors ahead in the 14th minute before Chinedu Ohanachom equalised for Heartland.

Timilehin Ogunniyi scored the only goal in the seventh minute of Sunshine Stars’ 1-0 win over visiting FC IfeanyiUbah, while Lobi Stars defeated MFM FC of Lagos with Martins Ossy’s 71st minute strike.

Akwa Ibom club Dakkada came from behind at home to claim a 2-1 win over Jigawa Golden Stars.

Aniekan Ekpe and Solomon Chigozie cancelled out Mohammed Abubakar first-half goal to hand Dakkada the three points.

Warri Wolves also won at home, defeating Adamawa United with Uche Ihuaralum’s 83rd minute goal.

Remarkably, there was no draw on Sunday, with six home wins and an away victory.
