US: Funmi Badejo, another Nigerian appointed into Joe Biden’s cabinet

PRESIDENT-ELECT Joe Biden has appointed another Nigerian-born technocrat, Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo, into his cabinet.

President-elect Biden made this known when he named additional 20 members of the office of the White House counsel.

In a statement released on the Biden-Harris transition website, Badejo was announced as general counsel of the House select subcommittee on the coronavirus crisis, to be chaired by House Majority Whip, James Clyburn,.

“Her prior government service includes serving as Counsel for policy to the Assistant Attorney-General in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Ethics Counsel at the White House Counsel’s Office and Attorney Advisor at the Administrative Conference of the United States during the Obama-Biden administration,” the statement read.

Badejo’s appointment makes her the third Nigerian-American appointed by Biden, after he appointed Osaremen Okolo as a member of his COVID-19 response team in early December 2020.

President-elect Biden had also appointed Nigerian-born Adewale Adeyemo into his cabinet as deputy secretary of the Treasury department.

Badejo is a lawyer and an alumna of Berkeley Law College in the United States, and has served as ethics counsel in the same office during the administration of President Barrack Obama.

She will work alongside other Counsel lawyers of the White House office; the executive office of the president, and the White House staff on legal issues pertaining to the president and the White House to provide counsel.
