ENYIMBA defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 in Aba in the biggest fixture of matchday 5 of the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday.
There were also wins for Plateau United, Rivers United, Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars.
Enyimba raced to a 2-0 by half-time, Anayo Iwuala and Gabriel Orok giving them the lead. Fahad Usman pulled one back for Pillars in the 86th minute.
High-flying Rivers United secured a comfortable 3-1 win over struggling Heartland in Port Harcourt.
Godwin Aguda’s 18th minute penalty and further strikes from Kazie Eyinnaya and Malachi Ohawume kept the Pride of Rivers on top of the table. Shedrack Oghali scored Heartland’s only goal.
In other matches, Plateau United beat Adamawa United 3-0, Nasarawa United edged out Katsina United 1-0, and Sunshine Stars defeated Warri Wolves by the same scoreline.
There were draws three draws on the matchday. Kwara United drew 0-0 at Jigawa Golden Stars, Abia Warriors got their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at FC IfeanyiUbah, and Enugu Rangers left Lagos with a 1-1 draw against MFM FC.
