LAGOS: Impound vehicles with covered number plates, Sanwo-Olu orders police

GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has ordered the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the State Police Command to impound vehicles which have their number plates covered in the state.

 The directive was disclosed on Sunday, January 17, 2021 by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of the RRS, Femi Moliki.

Speaking in the same vein, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hakeem Odumosu, Moliki said that the directive had resulted in impoundment of six vehicles by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in different parts of the state.

 Odumosu said five of the vehicles had been transferred to the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, the sixth one, a Mercedes Benz, ML 350, was said to have been intercepted and impounded at Victoria Island  by the officers of the squad, at about 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, January 16.

 It was disclosed that the driver of the vehicle, one Adam Oluremi, 32, allegedly threatened to mobilize a military man to shoot the officers, before they professionally defused the tension and successfully towed the vehicle to RRS Headquarters.

 After being briefed, Odumosu directed that the vehicle be impounded and the driver prosecuted, maintaining that nobody was above the law.

 This made the RRS Commander, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi to charge officers of the squad to be professional in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Egbeyemi urged them to be “civil, but firm, in enforcing the law.”

 He enjoined the officers to be dedicated to their duties, and not give room for distractions.

 Egbeyemi stated further that “law-abiding Lagos residents should look forward to a robust relationship with the RRS, promising that the squad would not compromise with criminals”
