NATIONAL: Save lives of gunshot victims first before other considerations, IGP tells doctors, others

THE Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, has urged doctors and other medical personnel to always respect the sanctity of life by placing saving lives of victims of gunshots above observing protocol.

He said this while commenting on hospitals requesting police report before they attend to victims of gunshot wounds,

Mohammed said this while featuring on Channels Television’s Newsnight on Monday

He said, “Save life first… lives must be saved first before thinking of any other thing to do…there is no issue of asking for any police report before you treat anybody with gunshot wounds,”

The IGP also said that officers of the Nigeria Police Force would outperform their counterparts in developed world if equipped with the same logistics

“If you put Nigerian police officers side by side with even police officers from advanced countries, give them the same logistics, you will see Nigeria police officers performing better than those that are coming from the so-called advanced countries,” he said.

He aded, “It is only in Nigeria that you have police officers that don’t have the required logistics that they need to operate, they struggle and make the society peaceful.

“When you take them out of the country to an international environment where those logistics that are required for you to do policing job are there, you will see them performing wonderfully well. That is why Nigerian police officers are claimed to be the best in the world.”
