OYO: Amotekun intercepts truck conveying suspected herdsmen to Ibarapa, recovers 25 guns

OPERATIVES of the state chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun have reportedly intercepted a truck loaded with gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in Ido town enroute Eruwa in Ibarapa East Local Government.

The men, who claimed they were going to hunt around Eruwa area of the state, were seen with 25 Dane guns and 10 dogs.

The truck conveying the suspected herdsmen was said to be registered with the Kebbi State and has the registration number TUR30ZY.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Police Headquarters in Eleyele Ibadan for profiling and further investigation.

Reacting to the incident, an official of Amotekun said,
“The Oyo State Amotekun, Ido unit led by Gbenga Olanrewaju made the arrest. They are suspected herdsmen in possession of about 25 dane guns and 10 dogs. They have been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
This development has been fuelling the speculation that those who set the house of a popular freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho afire may be Fulani people and they might have carried out the act to get back at Igboho.

Igboho has been at the vanguard of the agitation for the eviction of Fulani herdsmen in Igangan, in Ibarapa North Local Government, and the entire Oyo State.

He had issued an ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen, believed to be behind the killings and kidnappings in the area to vacate the state.

The intrepid freedom fighter on Sunday narrated how the militias guarding Saliu Abdulkadir, the Seriki Fulani’s residence in Igangan fired bullets at him when he visited the Seriki.

Irate youth in Igangan had reportedly set ablaze houses and property belonging to the Seriki in the wake of Igboho’s visit.

The Seriki had thereafter fled the community with his family, as aggrieved youths put fire to the settlement.
