Rodgers explains Ndidi’s injury, pleased with Leicester’s draw vs Everton

LEICESTER City manager Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the nature of the injury that forced Wilfred Ndidi to be taken off during Wednesday night’s Premier League clash as Everton.

The Super Eagles midfielder went down after a challenge and stayed down for about two minutes receiving treatment before limping off in the 42nd minute to be replaced by Nampalys Mendy.

The Foxes drew 1-1 at Goodison Park with Youri Tielemans cancelling out James Rodriguez’s Everton opening goal.

Leicester City centre-back Jonny Evans was also unable to finish the match.

“Wilf was tight, it was the back of his hamstring, so we’ll see how that goes in the next couple of days,” Rodgers explained in his post-match interview.

“Jonny, it was just blurred vision in one of his eyes.”

Ndidi has already missed around three months of the season after picking up a adductor injury in September and his return in December has coincided with an upturn in form for the Foxes.

The manager will hope his prized asset is not out for too long again.

Rodgers was however satisfied with the result and his side’s ability to get back in the game after going behind.

“I’m very pleased with the performance,” the former Liverpool manager told LCFC TV.

“I thought there was many aspects of the game that we were good in, and a great response to going behind to a team that don’t give away so many opportunities.

“In particular, in the second half, some of our football and the speed of our game was really exciting. With a little bit more luck, we could have gone on and won the game.

“They’ve got top players, so they’re going to defend well and the ‘keeper made some good saves. It was just unfortunate that the ball wouldn’t quite drop for us.

“I’m really pleased with the spirit of the team. They reacted to going behind, and we stayed right in the game. In the second half, I thought we were dominant.”

Leicester City are third in the Premier League table with 39 points from 20 matches, while Everton are seventh with 33 points from 18 matches.
