THE past weeks in this year have been accompanied by different sad events that have left the ears tingling and the eyes twitching.
The rate at which young people crave for wealth these days is so alarming; everybody just wants to be rich within a short while: buy cars and houses, throw money in the air and live life to the fullest.
Now, I’m not talking about those who genuinely work hard, save and invest; those who plant and water their seeds gradually. I’m referring to those that are ready to offer anything for wealth even if it’s to sacrifice a loved one.
Sometime last month, videos of the atrocities our young people commit went viral: a group of boys eating live chicken!!! Imagine eating chicken with its feathers and blood!!!!!! The manner at which they rushed it could make one think they were starved for days.
In another video, some young ladies and guys were bathing in a river while money was sprayed on them with incantations by a priest.
I also heard of a certain homosexual group where one night stand would produce millions of naira.
A lot of odd and absurd things have been going on which I may not be able to capture in full.
Recently, young ladies have fallen prey to these young ritualists. They deceive these ladies with money and material gifts, lure them into their untimely death or socially disgrace them, just to gain more wealth. Most of these unlucky ladies would either die, lose their sanity or remain unconscious till heaven knows when.
What’s really happening to this generation?
Why the rush?
Weren’t we thought that life is a gradual process and that there’s time for everything?
Is this what our parents bargained for when they had to work under the scorched sun to create a path for us?
I dare to say that this is a callous and ungodly attitude.
If this continues, then the country will be unsafe for its citizens.
It wouldn’t profit anyone to gain the world and lose his soul. So, why not be contented and take things easy; all fingers are not equal, everybody can’t make it at the same time.
I notice that there are as many notes of the piano as there are people
Or probably less, because there are those souls,
Like the depth of a jungle, resonant
With all the tunes
In our inharmonious existence.
