NIGER: Bandits storm GSS Kagara, abduct students, teachers, others in night raids

SOME students of Government Science College (CGS) located in Kagara, Rafi Local Government have been abducted by armed bandits.

Though the number of students abducted could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the bandits who executed the abduction were dressed in the exact school uniform of the school.

Explaining how the operation was executed, a source, who preferred anonymity, said the armed bandits stormed the school’s staff quarters around 2.am on Wednesday and abducted some teachers of the school and their family members.

After a successful operation at the staff quarters, located on the school premises, the source added that, while shooting repeatedly to the air, the bandits moved to the students’ hostels, overpowered the security guards and abducted a large number of students.

A headcount was being conducted at the school as of press time to ascertain the actual number of missing students.

However, it was also gathered that security agencies were said to have been on the trail of the bandits and NAF aircraft were seen hovering in the air to track the location of the students.

This abduction happened barely three days after about 18 passengers travelling, in the Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA), an intra state bus, were kidnapped while coming back from a wedding at Rijau, in Rijau Local Government Area of the state.

Only a woman with her child were said to have been left by the kidnappers.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe and his entourage also escaped being kidnapped by whiskers while returning from the same Kagara, his hometown, for the APC Registration and Revalidation exercise on the same day.
