THE Super Falcons got off to a winning start at the Turkish Women’s Cup with a 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow on Thursday.
Chinwedu Ihezuo scored the only goal of the match for the African champions against the Russian club.
New coach Randy Waldrum placed his faith in several veterans in his first game in charge, fielding the likes of Onome Ebi, Feancis Ordega, Asisat Oshoala and Tochukwu Oluehi in the starting line-up.
He however handed Nigeria debuts to American-born Toni Payne, who started, and Patricia George who replaced Halimat Ayinde in the 76th minute.
The Super Falcons were as expected dominant against the club and they got their goal in the 18th minute when Ihezuo tapped in Ordega’s cross.
The Nigerian ladies had more chances to increase their advantage but misses by captain Oshoala, Payne and others ensured there were no more goals.
The Super Falcons’ next fixture in the Turkish Women’s Cup is against Uzbekistan on Saturday.
