D’TIGERS made it six wins out of six games at the AfroBasket qualifiers on Friday with a comfortable 76-56 victory over Mali in Monastir, Tunisia.
The Nigerian team already qualified for the African Championship after their win over South Sudan on Wednesday, but they kept racking up more points.
The 2015 African champions defeated Rwanda on Thursday and they rounded off their qualifying campaign with a blowout win of their West African rivals on Friday.
The Nigerian men were switched on from the start on Friday, racing to a 24-8 lead in the first quarter.
They slowed down a bit in the second quarter but still got the better of the Malians 18-17, and increased their lead in the third quarter with a 20-16 score.
D’Tigers let up a little in the fourth quarter which ended 15-14 in favour of Mali but they still won with a 20-point margin, their biggest in Tunisia.
Veteran Ike Diogu was the game’s top performer with game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Ibrahima Cherif Haidara was Mali’s top scorer with 11 points while Ibrahim Djambo contributed 10 assists.
Mali and South Sudan also qualified for the 2021 men’s AfroBasket scheduled for Rwanda later in the year.
