Waldrum pleased with Super Falcons after CSKA Moscow win

SUPER Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum was not disappointed with his team’s performance despite a slim 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in their opening game at the Turkish Women’s Cup on Thursday.

The African champions fielded a strong line-up and were expected to beat the Russian club by a wider margin but missed several chances.

It was Waldrum’s first match in charge of the Nigerian ladies and he expressed pleasure in their showing.

“I am pleased with the performance considering that the team has not been together for over a year,” the 64-year-old American said.

“We did quite well in the first half and for me, it was great getting a result in this first camp and outing with the team.”

Waldrum, who is also the head coach of the University of Pittsburgh women’s football, however expects his players to improve in subsequent matches.

“We somewhat lost our way a few times in the second half, but on the balance, we did well and can only get better,” he added.

The Super Falcons will continue at the tournament on Saturday with a clash against Uzbekistan before facing African rivals Equatorial Guinea on Tuesday.
