GOVERNOR Sani Bello has assured parents and relatives of those abducted in the state during the week that his administration will secure the release of their people.
The governor, who has vowed not to pay ransom to the abductors, said the government was interfacing with security agencies, community leaders and relevant people to ensure the safe release of the kidnapped students, staff and family members of the school as well as the NSTA bus passengers.
He said this yesterday when he gave an update, which was broadcast by Arise TV, on the recent abductions and the security situation of the state generally.
The press conference, which was massively attended, took place at the Government House, Minna.
Speaking at the conference the governor said, “I want to assure you that we are doing everything we can. We are interfacing with the local communities, federal authorities and our own state authorities to ensure that we recover the victims safely.
“Our utmost priority right now is to make sure we bring them back home safely, and that is exactly what we are going to do.”
He said his administration would ensure schools are more secure by fencing them and strengthening vigilante groups to complement the conventional security agencies.
While expressing concerns over the dilapidated structure of some boarding schools in the state which he claimed predated his administration, the governor said under his leadership, nine boarding schools had been renovated.
