Super Falcons pip Uzbekistan at Turkish Women’s Cup

THE Super Falcons claimed their second win at the Turkish Women’s Cup on Saturday, beating Uzbekistan 1-0.

The African champions won through a fine strike by Halimat Ayinde to hand new head coach Randy Waldrum another victory after the 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow on Thursday.

The Super Falcons retained the same line-up that started against CSKA Moscow, with Barcelona striker Asisat Oshoala leading the line.

After a goalless first half in which the Nigerian ladies created several chances, they finally got the breakthrough two minutes into the second half.

Ayinde finished off a brilliant passing move which opened up the Uzbekistanis, the midfielder sidefooting into the net from close range.

This is Nigeria’s first participation in the prestigious competition and the Super Falcons are looking to be the first African team to win the cup.

African rivals Equatorial Guinea are up next for the Super Falcons on Tuesday.
