RIVERS: Gunmen kidnap prominent monarch, lecturer, others

THE monarch of Ikuru town, a prominent traditional ruler, HRM Aaron Ikuru has been abducted by gunmen.

The abduction was said to have taken place yesterday night in the monarch’s palace located at Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

In a similar vein, some boat travellers, including a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, who were returning to Port Harcourt from Andoni were kidnapped and whisked away by armed men suspected to be pirates.

Confirming the abduction of his principal to journalists, Maurice Ikuru, the spokesman of the monarch’s palace said, “Yes, it’s true. It happened about 8:30 or 9pm,” he said.

The State Police Command too, has confirmed the incident.

The command’s spokesman confirmed it this morning; he, however, said the identities of those kidnapped were not known as of the time of filing this report.

He said, “I can confirm that some persons who were coming back from Andoni were ambushed and kidnapped. Investigation is on-going to get the details,” Omoni stated.
