LAGOS: Govt to close Falomo Bridge for six weeks

THE government has announced closure of Falomo Bridge in the state for six weeks with effect from, March 14, 2021.

This was contained in a statement issued today by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde.

He stated that the closure follows the approval secured from the Federal Government for repair works on the bridge which will be completed on April 30, 2021.

“The repair works will run on a 24-hour shift in phases to enable the contractor complete repairs within the estimated time and minimize the expected inconveniences on the road users,” Oladeinde said

He further explained that “the first stage of the repairs will cover the Victoria Island-bound lane of the bridge, which will be closed to traffic”, adding that motorists heading towards Victoria Island will be diverted to the Ikoyi bound lanes to create a counter-flow.

The Commissioner also said while the Ikoyi bound lane will be closed down for the second stage of rehabilitation works, in a similar fashion, motorists will be diverted to other lanes.

He assured that “sufficient signage would be put up to guide motorists as well as traffic management personnel deployed to help motorists navigate their ways home with ease”.

Also, in continuation of the Nigerian Railway Modernisation Project (Lagos-Ibadan section) that will extend to the Apapa Ports, the Lagos State Government says Badia Junction and Gaskiya level crossings will be closed from 9.30 pm on Sunday, 14th to 6.00 am on Monday, 15th March, 2021.

The Commissioner, therefore, advised motorists going to Badia from Ijora 7up to navigate their way through Marine Bridge to link Boundary inwards Olayinka Street to connect Gaskiya Road to access Badia, adding that motorists going to Badia from Lagos-Badagry Expressway are to utilise Orile inwards Sari-Iganmu Road inwards Gaskiya Road to connect Badia.

The state government also said Abule-Nla and Brewery Level Crossings will be closed for construction works on the rail track from 9:30pm on Friday 12th March, to 6:00 am Saturday 13th March, 2021 in continuation of the Railway Modernisation Project.
