ABIA Warriors were the biggest winners in the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 21 on Sunday, beating Kano Pillars 4-1 in Okigwe.
Imama Amakapabo’s side were ruthless against the visitors from Kano, and the win took them up to 10th in the table.
Godwin Obaje got the Warriors on their way with the first goal in the 21st minute and Obioma Chukwuemeka made it 2-0 thirteen minutes later.
Nyima Nwagua halved the deficit in the 36th minute, but Chukwuemeka struck again in the 59th minute to make it 3-1, before Daniel Wotlai made it 4-1 in the 83rd minute against the team in fourth place.
In another high-scoring clash on Sunday, Lobi Stars defeated Middle Belt rivals Plateau United 3-2 in Markurdi.
Remarkably, all five goals were scored in a frenzied second half.
Douglas Achiv scored the first goal in the 47th minute to give Lobi the lead, Austin Ogunye made it 2-0 10 minutes later with a penalty, and Austin Ogunye scored Lobi Stars’ third in the 66th minute.
Muhammad Zulkifilu scored twice in the 82nd minute and in added time to make the scoreline respectable for Plateau United.
Second-placed Enugu Rangers defeated bottom side Adamawa United 1-0 in Enugu courtesy of Chinonselo Ebekwe’s 85th minute goal, just as Wikki Tourists beat Warri Wolves.
In the other results of the evening, Dakkada defeated Katsina United 1-0, league leaders Kwara United were held to a 0-0 at home by Heartland, and IfeanyiUbah drew 0-0 with visiting Rivers United.
The match between Sunshine United and Nasarawa United in Akure was suspended at half-time due to the weather and will resume on Monday morning.
