OYO: Police arrest, arraign 80-year old politician over Aborode’s death

AN 80-year-old chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Igangan, simply identified as Pa Olawuwo, has been arraigned in court over the killing of Dr Fatai Aborode.

THE investigation into the gruesome murder of Dr Fatai Aborode, may have started yielding fruit as men of the state police command have arrested an 80-year-old chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Igangan,  identified as Pa. Olawuwo

Olawuwo, who was said to have been arrested yesterday, has since been taken to  the State Criminal Investigation Department Iyaganku in Ibadan.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olugbenga Fadeyi said the octogenarian PDP chieftain was arraigned this morning over the killing of Aborode and the court remanded him in police custody.

The PPRO said, “Yes, he has been charged to court and remanded in Police custody.”

Aborode was killed by unknown gunmen on his way back home from his farm, located  along Apodun-road, in Igangan Ibarapa North Local Government on December, 11, 2020.

The politician was with his farm manager when the gunmen killed him.

The deceased contested  a seat in the House of Representatives under Accord Party in 2015 and lost.

He defected to the PDP moths before he was murdered.

Pa. Olawuwo the octogenarian politician arrested in connection with Aborode’s death is from the same constituency from the deceased.

The constituency comprises Igboora, Idere, Tapa, Ayete and Igangan from where Aborode hailed from.

There were speculations that Aborode was killed by herdsmen in the wake of his murder and the speculation was one the reasons the self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho was invited to Igangan town to issue eviction notice to Fulani herders in the community, particularly the Seriki Fulani of the town.

Governor Seyi Makinde, however, debunked the insinuation during an interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, last month.

Makinde said investigation had shown that Aborode’s death was politically motivated, urging the police to swing into action
