THE Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 has given formal approval for the Edo 2020 National Sports Fest ival to go ahead.
A statement from the sports ministry on Wednesday said Edo State met all the stipulated health protocols to earn the approval.
The thrice-postponed festival is scheduled for 2 April to 14 April in Benin City, Edo State.
A letter dated 30 March, 2021 signed by Dr Assad Hassan to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Chief Sunday Dare said: “Consequent to the adequate preparatory engagements on Covid-19 protocol between Edo State, Centre For Disease Control and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency towards safe conduct of the Sports Festival, I have been directed to convey the approval of the PTF for the 2020 National Sports Festival to proceed as scheduled from April 2nd to 14th.”
The PTF further commended the sports minister for taking the tough decision of postponing the festival multiple times due to the spike in the spread of the pandemic.
The sports festival was first billed to take place in March 2020 but was postponed following the outbreak of Covid-19 which led to a national lockdown.
