Osimhen named Super Eagles MVP, tops AFCON qualifiers goals chart

VICTOR Osimhen was voted the man of the match of the Nigeria versus Lesotho Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.

The Napoli striker scored one goal and assisted another as the Super Eagles defeated the Crocodiles to finish the campaign without defeat.

He was presented with a N1 million reward by one of Nigeria Football Federation’s partners Nigeria Breweries Plc.

Osimhen scored the first goal of the match in the first half, latching on to a brilliant ball from Kelechi Iheanacho, before turning provider for Oghenekaro Etebo to score the second goal.

The former FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer took his goals and assists tally to five each after Tuesday’s return.

Despite playing in only five of Nigeria’s six qualifiers, Osimhen is joint-top scorer in the qualifying series along with Zambia’s Patson Daka.

The Super Eagles failed to score in the only game the 22-year-old missed in the series, the 0-0 draw with Sierra Leone in Freetown last November.

He had been forced out of the match by injury after breaking his shoulder four days earlier in the reverse fixture in Benin City, the draw in which he also scored.
