LAGOS State won three straight men’s boxing finals on Tuesday to increase their gold haul at the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival in Benin City.
Shittu Afolabi of Lagos defeated Kasali Abayomi 3-2 to win the gold medal in the men’s 52kg category.
Adesodun Michael, also of Lagos State, beat Fajimi Taiye of Ogun State 5-0 to win gold in the men’s 60kg boxing event.
Lagos made it three of three in men’s boxing when Omole Dolapo outpunched Bayelsa’s Godstime Osaigbovo to win the state’s third boxing gold on the day. Dolapo made sure Godstime was not the best on that occasion.
In the women’s 48kg category, Borno State’s Zainab Ojo took the gold medal up north, while Falilat Tijani of Ogun State won the women’s 60kg gold.
Meanwhile, Delta State and host Edo State shared the three gold medals in women’s rugby on Tuesday.
Edo won gold in Rugby Sevens, leaving Ogun State with silver and Delta with the bronze medal.
In Rugby Tens for women, Delta claimed the gold medal, Edo won silver, and Akwa Ibom had to make do with bronze.
In Rugby XVs, Edo and Delta bagged gold and silver respectively, while Akwa Ibom took the bronze medal.
The finals of most of the events were held on Tuesday as the festival will be formally declared closed on Wednesday.
