Tottenham Hotspur sack Jose Mourinho!

JOSE Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur, the club confirmed on Monday morning.

“The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties,” Tottenham Hotspur wrote in a statement on their official website.

The club’s Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a Club. 

“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged. He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”

The club confirmed that former player Ryan Mason will take first team training on Monday with a further update to follow in due course.

Although Mourinho, who joined Spurs in November 2019 following the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, has led the club to the Carabao Cup final, they have generally underperformed under his guidance.

For instance, Mourinho has lost more games in all competitions in 2020-21 than he has in any other season in his managerial career (13), and Tottenham are seventh in the Premier League, five points off the Champions League spots.

Before Mourinho’s arrival, Tottenham regularly qualified for the Champions League and reached the final in May 2019 under Pochettino.

However, they even struggled in the less competitive Europa League under Mourinho, crashing out in the round of 16 to minnows Dinamo Zagreb.

There are rumours of a £30m payout clause in Mourinho’s contract should he get sacked.

Tottenham face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
