One step closer! Troost-Ekong excited as Watford near EPL return

SUPER Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong was in buoyant mood on Tuesday night after helping Watford to a 1-0 win over Norwich City.

The Nigeria centre-back played all 90 minutes at Carrow Road as the vital win all but secured a quick return to the Premier League for Watford.

Dan Gosling scored the all-important goal for visitors Watford in the 57th minute to cement their spot in the second automatic promotion spot in the Championship.

“+3 One step closer! What a team performance!” Troost-Ekong tweeted moments after the match.

Watford now have 85 points from 43 matches, crucially nine points ahead of third-placed Swansea City with just three matches to go.

Troost-Ekong and his teammates will have to lose all three remaining matches while Swansea win all of theirs for Watford not to be promoted back to the Premier League from where they were relegated last season.

Interestingly, Norwich, the side that lost at home to Watford on Tuesday night, are in first place with their promotion already guaranteed, and were also relegated last season from the Premier League.

Troost-Ekong has been a key member of the Watford team since joining them from Udinese in September, playing 31 league matches and scoring one goal.
