Iheanacho, Onuachu score in mixed results for Leicester, Genk

SUPER Eagles strikers Kelechi Iheanacho and Paul Onuachu were both on target for their European clubs on Friday night, although they had different results.

Iheanacho scored in Leicester City’s shock 4-2 home defeat to Newcastle United in the English Premier League, while Onuachu helped Genk to a 3-0 home win over title rivals Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League.

Leicester City, third in the Premier League table but needing a win to stave off the chasing pack, were at the receiving end of a devastating Newcastle United performance.

Steve Bruce’s side raced to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Joe Willock and Paul Dummet.

They continued where they left off in the second half, Callum Wilson adding two more goals to give Newcastle United an incredible 4-0 lead in the 73rd minute, the first time the club have scored four goals in an away league match in 20 years.

Leicester City then mustered a late attempt at a stirring comeback, Marc Albrighton powering home from the edge of the box in the 80th minute after Iheanacho deceived the Newcastle defence by stepping over the ball for the Englishman.

Iheanacho, who is up for the Premier League Player of the Month award for April, then struck in the 87th minute to put some respectability on the scoreline.

The Nigeria international has now scored 10 goals in his last nine Premier League appearances, three more than any other player in the competition since the beginning of March.

Leicester City are still third in the Premier League table with 63 points from 35 matches, but Chelsea could overtake them on Saturday if the Blues defeat Manchester City.

Newcastle’s win took their points total to 39, 12 above the relegation zone.

In Belgium, Onuachu scored his 31st league goal in 35 appearances in a remarkably prolific season to open the scoring in the Championship play-off fixture.

Genk scored two more through Junya Ito and Kristian Thorstvedt to cut the gap on leaders Brugge to five points.
