Man United extend unbeaten away run, set comeback record with victory over Villa

MANCHESTER United once again conceded first before going on to win on Sunday, beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Villa Park.

Bertrand Traore gave the hosts the lead but goals from Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani sealed yet another comeback win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

The Red Devils are now unbeaten in 25 consecutive away Premier League fixtures, just two games short of the record of 27 set by Arsenal in 2003/2004.

Solskjaer’s side have now also recovered 31 points from losing positions this season, 28 of them coming from away fixtures.

Manchester United have also won 10 Premier League matches after conceding first this season, a record by a team in a single season in the competition’s history, according to Opta statistics.

Burkina Faso forward Traore shot Aston Villa ahead in the 24th minute with a classy finish, outmuscling Victor Lindelof before unleashing an unstoppable left-footed strike from inside the United box.

United equalised seven minutes into the second half when Fernandes scored from the penalty spot after a foul in the Villa box.

Four minutes later, United were ahead as Greenwood’s shot flew past Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez into the net.

Substitute Cavani wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute with a brilliant header off Marcus Rashford’s assist. It was the 34-year-old Uruguayan’s eighth goal in his last seven appearances in all competitions.

Villa’s problems were further compounded in the 89th minute when Ollie Watkins was sent off with a second yellow card for diving.

With the win, United prevented rivals Manchester City from claiming the title with three games to spare.

United are currently second with 70 points from 34 games and their place in the top four is all but secure as they are 11 points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham.
