NPFL: Rangers outclass Enyimba in Eastern derby, Musa-less Pillars draw, Katsina spank Wikki

ENUGU Rangers won the biggest fixture as the Nigeria Professional Football League resumed from mid-season break on Sunday, beating Eastern rivals Enyimba 2-0.

After a goalless first half, Christian Nnaji scored in the 57th minute before Elijah Ani netted a 90th minute penalty to seal the win against the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finalists.

In Delta, Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by hosts Warri Wolves.

Pillars, who travelled to Delta State without their new superstar recruit and Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, scored first through Auwalu Malam Ali in the 58th minute.

The Kano side held on to their lead until the 86th minute when Mark Daniel equalised for the hosts from the penalty spot.

The biggest win of the evening was Katsina United trouncing Wikki Tourists 5-1.

Katsina United raced to a 3-0 lead through Joseph Atule (16th minute), Rasheed Ahmed (35th minute) and Samuel Nnoshiri (39th).

Stephen Gopey netted for visitors Wikki in the 48th minute to reduce the deficit but Samuel Kalu made it 4-1 two minutes after the hour mark, while Ahmed bagged his second goal and his side’s fifth in the 74th minute.

In other results on Sunday, Akwa United beat Sunshine Stars 2-1, Plateau United defeated Abia Warriors 2-1 and Rivers United eased past Dakkada 2-0.

The only away win of the day was Heartland’s 1-0 victory at struggling Adamawa United courtesy of Kingsley Maduforo’s 80th minute strike.

The fixture between FC IfeanyiUbah and MFM FC in Enugu was not held due to a mix-up in communications.
