Chelsea outclass Man City to win Champions League title

CHELSEA produced a brilliant performance on Saturday night to defeat Manchester City 1-0 and win the UEFA Champions League title.

In the final in Porto, Portugal, Chelsea scored the only goal of the match through Kai Hevertz midway into the first half.

The Germany forward latched on to a defence-splitting pass from Mason Mount and rounded City goalkeeper Ederson to slot into an empty net.

The goal was thoroughly deserved as Chelsea made the brighter start and could have been two up before the breakthrough.

The quick Timo Werner had two glorious chances to give Chelsea the lead, fluffing his lines both times before Havertz’s cool finish.

Manchester City looked out of sorts from the start of the match, struggling to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s strange tactics of playing without a defensive midfielder against a team known for their swift counterattacks.

While City’s defenders struggled to deal with Werner, Havertz, Mount and Chelsea’s marauding wing-backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James, Guardiola’s side’s attack also found no space to cause problems for Tuchel’s side.

Despite losing their defensive stalwart Thiago Silva to an early injury, Chelsea soldiered on and conceded very few chances to City, who had Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and especially Raheem Sterling struggling.

Guardiola introduced Fernandinho eventually after Kevin De Bruyne limped off crying from an injury, and brought on strikers Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero, but it made little difference as Chelsea won their second Champions League title.
