Barcelona sign Memphis Depay from Lyon

MEMPHIS Depay has joined Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia in signing for Barcelona for next season.

The Spanish club announced the arrival of the Netherlands forward on Saturday evening while Portugal were taking on Germany at Euro 2020.

“Barcelona and Memphis Depay have reached an agreement for the player to join the Club once his contract with Olympique Lyonnais is at an end,” the LaLiga giants announced.

“The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season.”

Memphis’ contract with Lyon will expire on 30 June and he will formally join Barcelona on a free transfer on 1 July.

The 27-year-old forward started his career at hometown club VV Moordrecht and has played for Sparta Rotterdam and PSV Eindhoven in his native Netherlands.

He had an unsuccessful spell at Manchester United where he spent 18 months before being sold to Lyon in January 2017.

He thrived at the French club, making 178 appearances with 76 goals and 55 assists.

Memphis is currently at the European Championship with the Netherlands squad.
