Super Eagles star Onyeka set to join Brentford from Midtjylland

ANOTHER Super Eagles player will soon be playing in the English Premier League if information from Denmark is correct.

FC Midtjylland midfielder Frank Onyeka is on the verge of sealing a move to newly promoted Brentford, reports in Denmark claimed on Sunday.

Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet claimed definitively that the Super Eagles midfielder ‘has played his last match for FC Midtjylland’.

The 23-year-old still has three years left on his FC Midtjylland contract but the report says he is certain to leave this summer with Brentford the most likely destination.

Ekstra Bladet noted that Onyeka was not present when FC Midtjylland started their preparations for the new season last week.

He is still in his Nigeria on vacation and his name was missing from the list of available players for Midtjylland for the new season.

Ekstra Bladet reported that FC Midtjylland is close to an agreement with a foreign club thought to be Brentford, a sister club they have collaborated with, for Onyeka’s switch.

The Nigerian is said to not be in Midtjylland coach Bo Henriksen’s plans going forward while Brentford manager Thomas Frank is an admirer.

Despite the stricter rules in connection with Brexit, Onyeka will not have problems obtaining a work permit in the UK, according to the Danish outlet.

Onyeka joined FC Midtjylland from FC Ebedei in 2016 and made 121 appearances, scoring 17 goals for the club.

He played 41 matches in all competitions for the club last season, including in the UEFA Champions League, with four goals and four assists.

If he makes the switch to Brentford, Onyeka will be joining Nigeria internationals like Everton’s Alex Iwobi, as well as Leicester City pair Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi in the Premier League.

Onyeka has one Super Eagles cap, which he earned in the 1-0 friendly defeat to Algeria in Austria last October.
