TODAY, Monday, July 5, 2021, the University of Lagos, UNILAG, will begin its week-long 51st convocation ceremony for the 2019/2020 graduates.
A distinguished alumnus of the University, Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, is expected to deliver the convocation lecture at 1pm today. It will be chaired by another eminent alumnus, Tunde Bakare , the presiding Pastor of the The Latter Rain Assembly.
Preparation for the week-log (July 5 to 8) convocation started last week with the repainting of zebra lines on the routes within the campus and repairing of the street lights among other activities.
The convocation was supposed to have taken place on Monday, March 9, 2019 but was cancelled a day to the ceremony following disagreements between the governing council of the school led by Dr Wale Babalakin (SAN ) and the university management over contract and projects’ implementation. The conflict resulted in the indictment of some serving and retired principal officers of the institution, just as the board faulted the university’s choice of a guest speaker without the knowledge of the governing council.
The convocation commences today with a press conference with the Vice Chancellor, Ogundipe Oluwatoyin. From Tuesday July 6, other activities will hold at the J.F Ade Ajayi auditorium and the main auditorium 10 a.m daily.
