Simy completes €6m move to Serie A newcomers Salernitana

SUPER Eagles striker Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwanwko has officially left Crotone to join newly-promoted Serie A side Salernitana.

The deal was confirmed on Thursday and is believed to be worth €6m.

Simy scored 20 goals in 38 Serie A appearances last season as Crotone went down from Serie A to Serie B.

“The US Salernitana 1919 announces that it has reached an agreement with FC Crotone for the temporary transfer with the obligation to redeem the striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo,” the club announced on Thursday afternoon.

The deal is an initial loan with an obligation to buy the 29-year-old Nigeria international for €6m plus bonuses.

After weeks of negotiations between the clubs, Simy signed the contract on Thursday after having passed his medical earlier in the day.

The towering striker had also been linked with Udinese, Real Mallorca, Bologna and Tottenham Hotspur, but he was keen to remain in Italy, where he has lived since 2016.

Simy, who has four Super Eagles caps, will lead the line for Salernitana who are back in Serie A after an absence of over 20 years.
