Liverpool disgrace Man United at Old Trafford as Barca fall in El Clasico

LIVERPOOL underlined their Premier League title credentials on Sunday with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of their bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.Egypt forward Mohamed Salah scored three of Liverpool’s goals, with Naby Keita and Diego Jota adding the others.

Guinea midfielder Keita opened the floodgates in the fifth minute after finding himself one on one with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

Jota made it 2-0 in the 13th minute before Salah then took over, scoring thrice between the 38th and 50th minutes as the poorly organised United side fell apart.

The Egyptian became the first away player to score a hat-trick at Old Trafford for over 18 years, since Ronaldo did so for Real Madrid back in April 2003 in the Champions League, according to Opta statistics.

The defeat is also the heaviest Manchester United have ever suffered at home to Liverpool, whilst it is the first time they have lost by five or more goals at home without scoring since February 1955 (5-0 v Man City).

Paul Pogba, who was a half-time substitute, was sent off for dangerous play in the 61st minute to add insult to Manchester United’s injury. With the win, Liverpool went back up to second place with the 21 points, one point behind leaders Chelsea.

United are seventh with 14 points, having not won any of their last four Premier League games, losing three of them.In Spain, Real Madrid won the first LaLiga El Clasico of the season, beating Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou.

David Alaba gave Real Madrid the lead in the first half and Lucas Vasquez made it 2-0 in the second minute of injury time.

Hosts Barcelona still had enough time to reduce the tally through substitute Sergio Aguero who scored his first-ever goal for them seven minutes into added time.

Real Madrid went to the top of the LaLiga table with the victory as Barcelona fell to ninth spot.
