Congo have pulled out of the second leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, the Confederation of African Football has announced.
Nigeria’s Falconets won the first leg 4-0 in Brazzaville and were preparing for the return leg in Lagos before the announcement on Sunday.
“Congo Football Association (FECOFOOT) have withdrawn their national team from FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers,” CAF stated on their official website.
“After Nigeria’s 4-0 victory against Congo in Brazzaville, the return leg was scheduled for 17 December 2021 in Lagos.”Congo cited travelling constraints for their withdrawal, according to CAF, who declared Nigeria as winners of the tie.”In a correspondence to CAF, FECOFOOT expressed the inability of Congo to take part in the next match due to travel challenges,” the continental body added.
“Therefore, the match is cancelled, and Nigeria automatically qualified for the next round.”
The Falconets, two-time finalists at the U-20 Women’s World Cup, are now into the final round of qualifiers for the 2022 edition scheduled for Costa Rica in August.
