THE state government today said it has trained 7533 farmers and agro-processors, supported 1786 farmers with cash grants, and 3950 farmers with inputs and equipment through the Agro-processing, Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS) Project.
It said as a result it has ensured food security, promote nutrition sensitive technology and sustainable business alliance through the APPEALS Project.
The State Project Coordinator, APPEALS Project, Oluranti Sagoe-Oviebo, stated this at a media briefing themed”Zero hunger:forging Ahead together for sustainable Actions”.
She said that the project supported by the Federal Government and World bank which is being implemented in six states has been partnering with stakeholders to enhance the three value chains of aquaculture, poultry and rice.
She further said that project has surpassed projected target beneficiaries as 17457 beneficiaries had been empower though the target was 10,000 beneficiaries.
She said through the project, the state government has enhanced the consumption of fresh fish, poultry and Ofada rice adding that the prospects for 2022 is to go into egg powder, canning technology, complete two farm access roads in Badagry and Ikorodu, as well as establish 15 cottage industries.
Beneficiaries prayed that the APPEALS Projects, which would close next year, should be extended, as it has been a catalyst for development, created e-market for farm produce, enhanced their capacities, addressed gluts, bad roads aside supporting farmers with grants and training.
Speaking earlier, the Project Communication Officer, Folake Ogunlana-Lawal, implored to spotlight the programmes and successes of the project so that critical stakeholders would be aware of the impact of the APPEALS project.
