Tinubu absent as Ooni, Alaafin hold peace talks with Aregbesola

THE Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, have waded into the conflict between presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu and minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

The monarchs, it was gathered, met with Aregbesola in Ibadan yesterday.

It was also learnt that the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) had also intervened.

Aregbesola had publicly criticised Tinubu in the build-up to the party’s February governorship primaries in Osun where the minister backed Moshood Adeoti. Tinubu, however, put his weight behind the incumbent Gboyega Oyetola.

The ex-Lagos State Governor was not present at the meeting, according to sources.

Another source however said he was not invited for the first meeting but that the monarchs would hold a separate meeting with him at a later date before convening a joint meeting.

Reacting, his media aide, TundeRahman said, “Yes, I saw pictures of the meeting on social media as you did too. HE Asíwájú Bola Tinubu was not invited to the meeting. I can tell you that clearly. I believe the two traditional rulers intend to reach out to him later.
