‘Happy’ Oshoala signs new deal with Barcelona Femeni

ASISAT Oshoala has expressed her joy at extending her stay at Barcelona Femeni for two more years.

The Super Falcons captain signed the new contract with the UEFA Women’s Champions League holders on Thursday after her previous deal expired.

“Asisat Oshoala has renewed her contract with FC Barcelona until June 30, 2024,” the club announced on Thursday.

“The striker, who ended her association with the Club at the end of the season, has sealed her continuity for two more years alongside President Joan Laporta and manager Xavier Puig , in the Camp Nou presidential office.”

The 27-year-old Nigerian joined Barcelona on January 31, 2019 and has been prolific ever since, helping the club to multiple domestic trophies and their first-ever European title.

In 101 official matches at the Spanish giants, Oshoala has scored 80 goals, which makes her the sixth highest scorer in the history of the club. She scored the first Barcelona goal in a Champions League final in Budapest in 2019 and is currently the top scorer of the Spanish women’s top flight, Primera Iberdrola, with 19 goals in 16 games.

Four-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year was understandably pleased to renew her contract and promised to keep scoring.

“I am just happy to be in the best team in the world. Not just because of their football, because you look outside the pitch and because of how they treat footballers to keep improving,” she said at the contract-signing ceremony.

“I am a striker and I want to keep scoring more goals. I love it. The goal is to keep growing and to be happy. ”
