THE Falconets will host Senegal this weekend as they seek a ticket to the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
The Nigerian girls will be at home to their fellow West Africans at the Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Saturday in the second leg of the final qualifying round.
The Falconets already have one foot in the finals having won the first leg 3-1 in Senegal courtesy of Flourish Sebastine’s hat-trick, and the Nigerian girls are expected to seal qualification on Saturday.
The Falconets are seeking to return to a tournament where thay have finished as runners-up twice, in 2010 and 2014, and reached the semi finals in 2012.
The Senegalese contingent arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, and are expected in Benin City on Friday. Saturday’s match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium will kick off at 4pm.
To reach this final stage, the Falconets thrashed Central African Republic 11-0 on aggregate and smashed Congo 4-0 in Brazzaville in a third round, first leg match, with the Congolese forfeiting the second leg.
In the fourth round, the Falconets outclassed Cameroon 3-0 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has appointed match officials from Eswatini to take charge of Saturday’s encounter.
Letticia Antonella Viana will be the centre referee, with compatriots Cosma Nxumalo (assistant referee 1), Patricia Mkhaliph (assistant referee 2) and Rebeccah Tencwala Soko (fourth official) assisting her. The match commissioner will be Aisha Nalule from Uganda.
This year’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held in Costa Rica in August.
