KADUNA: Abducted ABU female student freed after N3m ransom

A POST-graduate student of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, Halimat Oguntoyinbo, who was kidnapped about three weeks ago, has regained freedom.

Recall that on March 19 that Halimat was kidnapped on March 5, 2022, by bandits in military camouflage who stopped an 18-passenger bus she boarded at Jere section of the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

The 28-year-old, newly-married graduate of Geology had gone to the university to perfect the presentation of her final MSc project when she was abducted.

The kidnappers established contact with the victim’s family and demanded N100million as ransom, which they later reduced to N10million.

It was gathered that after much persuasion, the hoodlums reduced the ransom to N3m, which Halimat’s family paid before she was released on Friday, after 21 days in the kidnappers’ den.

In a WhatsApp message sent to our correspondent yesterday, the victim’s sister, Tawakalit Oguntoyinbo said: ’’Alhamdulillah, she (Halimat) has been released by the bandits after payment of N3 million ransom.

‘’She (Hakimat) is receiving treatment at a hospital at the moment. Thanks so much for the support. We appreciate you, sir.’’
