THE Federal Government has ordered the closure of its offices in Abuja by 1pm on Tuesday in support of the Super Eagles.
The Nigerian national team host their Ghanaian opponents in the second leg of the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoffs on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday evening from 6pm.
To ensure the civil servants do not miss out on the action and have enough time to get to the stadium to cheer on the Super Eagles, the government has given the workers three extra hours ahead of the normal closing time of 4pm.
A memo from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, confirmed the order on Monday night as the federal government reiterated the need to encourage support for the Super Eagles.
“As you are aware the Super Eagles of Nigeria will be meeting the Black Stars of Ghana in continuation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs (return leg),” the memo states.
“There is a need to mobilise support for the Nigerian team. Consequently, I am directed to inform you that all offices will be closed at 1pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.”
The sports ministry and the Nigeria Football Federation are also making efforts to get fans to the 60,000-capacity stadium, securing 20,000 free tickets along with free rides for interested spectators.
The first leg in Kumasi ended 0-0 on Friday before over 40,000 fans at the Baba Yara Stadium.
